Job title: Head of Finance
Location: London
Days/Hours: Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 5:30pm
Reports to: CFO
General Overview
The head of finance will assist the CFO with the financial affairs of Brandsmiths and report to the CFO. They will manage and mentor a small team, improve commercial analysis and understanding, build and further develop existing processes and procedures, support the business’ continuing growth, and build relationships with external advisors.
The head of finance will contribute with the provision of commercial and provide financial information to the CFO when required. They will also provide financial training to fee earners and business management staff where necessary.
The head of finance will ensure that all internal management information is accurate, timely and insightful and also that all external submissions are completed as required. They will be responsible for working capital management and be the primary contact with the firm’s bank to manage the firm’s needs and the flow of information. The head of finance will also assist with the year end audit.
Strong commercial awareness and communication skills will be invaluable. To meet the diverse and evolving business needs the individual must be service-oriented, have experience of stakeholder management and the ability to spot new trends in financial technology.
There will be the potential to shape the finance and payroll function further in order to fit with the strategic plan for Brandsmiths.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Deliver monthly management information and commentary to the CFO including profit and loss variance analysis.
- Develop, implement and monitor key financial performance indicators, and provide valuable financial insight and support across all aspects of the business.
- Lead and manage a small finance team and provide appropriate training and development opportunities.
- Assess and where necessary revise any financial firm-wide processes, policies and procedures, including appropriate controls, to drive efficiencies and ensure the team meets current and future business needs.
- Effectively engage management and colleagues, at all levels, to ensure good communication channels in relation to London and Manchester offices.
- Ensure all relevant statutory filings, financial reporting, and payments are completed on a timely basis.
- Deliver an accurate and timely year end process; to include effective management of the annual audit process and production and filing of annual statutory accounts.
- Manage cash flow and banking arrangements for all operations.
- Prepare all information for the annual income tax calculations.
- Maintain close relationships with key external contacts (e.g. bank, finance software house, etc)
Person specification
- Must be a qualified chartered accountant.
- Effective budgeting, forecasting and planning skills.
- Payroll experience
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to motivate a small team and to interact with all levels of seniority
- Some facility with data and data interpretation.
