Preserving wealth, protecting families, and securing the future of businesses.
Brandsmiths had the pleasure of taking part in Get Protected in Life, an event designed to spark conversations around preserving wealth, protecting families, and securing the future of businesses.
Held at the Home Grown members' club in London, the evening brought together a mix of entrepreneurs, founders, and professionals.
We were pleased to contribute our legal expertise to the discussion, alongside other industry leaders.
Why do these conversations matter?
In this fast-paced world, protecting what you build is just as important as growing it. The evening focused on some key areas in personal and business protection, including:
- Raising capital
- Protecting intellectual property
- Understanding shareholder agreements
- Core aspects of life insurance
- Strategies for safeguarding high-value assets
Brandsmiths’ Role on the Panel
The firm was represented by Bianca Wilson, Senior Associate, who joined an outstanding panel of experts to discuss legal protection and risk management in business.
With a background that includes in-house roles at Warner Bros. Discovery and ITV, Bianca brings deep industry insight to her work. She is passionate about working with challenger brands and female-founded businesses and has built a reputation for delivering creative, pragmatic, and strategic legal solutions. Her experience spans a wide range of commercial transactions, covering media, digital, intellectual property, and general commercial matters.
Alongside speakers from Jensten and Frankie’s, Bianca shared insights on the importance of strategies such as trade marks, for businesses looking to safeguard their growth and success. She also discussed common legal mistakes that first-time founders make. This includes aspects such as:
- Not putting contracts in writing
- Making promises – particularly with staff and other founders
- Ignoring IP until problems arise
- Not thinking globally early enough
- The importance of trade marks
- Giving away control of the business unwittingly e.g. by allowing investors to have control (through veto rights) of key business decisions
A clear message throughout the night was that business protection is not a luxury, it’s essential. Whether through legal frameworks or insurance solutions, proactively taking steps will protect everything you’re working towards.
Beyond the panel, the evening was a great opportunity to network with like-minded individuals.
